{EXCERPT}

I had only gone a few steps when the singing began.

I stopped and whirled, my gaze darting about trying to determine the source of the unearthly song that now wafted through the evening air. It came from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It started low and rose up in power, like a seabird taking to the air. It resonated off the land and sea, the rocks and cliffs lifting into the endless sky above. The singer seemed to reach down into his core and unleashed a song from the very depths of his soul. His music had no words or language of substance to bind it down. Within his passionate performance I found a moment’s release from the shackles that bound me to this earth. Wings to carry me up into the heights of unfettered joy.

The song was both beautiful and tragic. Wild and yet soothing. It captured my heart even as it set my spirits free. It was as if the angel of deliverance himself called out to the weary world, bracing them up on the wings of his eternal hope. And then it was done. The last echoes of the voice faded and silence fell over the land once more. The air did not stir. The birds ceased to sing. In reverence, the whole island seemed to be holding its breath—waiting.
I never was much for waiting.

Bolting in the most unladylike fashion, I raced to the edge of the cliffs and looked down into dark depths far below, trying to catch a glimpse of the singer responsible for my own private audience. The surface of the ocean was a rippling sea of liquid onyx. Within that blackness was a light. It quivered and pulsed beneath the water like a fallen star. At first I believed it to be a reflection of the moon, or a trick of the light, but the longer I stared at it, the more horribly certain I became that this was no illusion. My momentary joy in the lovely song turned upon itself like a maddened beast. Fear crept into its place.

I’d heard sailors speak of something like this before. Ghost lights they called them. They were said to be the lost souls of those who died in the sea. Seeing one was a harbinger of death.

My death.

The light flashed into a fierce brilliance for a moment. I gasped as the welts on my wrist burned with a sudden intensity that made me dizzy. Then it was gone and the fire in my skin retreated as quickly as it came. I looked down into the water with wonder, but the light had vanished, leaving me shivering and alone in dusky darkness.

{EXCERPT}

“Whoever it is that’s trying to reach you is—”

“It’s just my mother. I’ll call her back.” He’s still standing at the end of the porch. “Why did you come here?”

“I wanted to make sure you were alright.”

“Why wouldn’t I be alright?"

“You’re not, are you?”

It wasn’t a question. Was I really acting so different that a total stranger could already tell? He couldn’t even see my face. Not really.
I push myself out of the wicker chair and walk over to him.
“I want to go swimming. Come swimming with me?”

“It’s a bit chilly tonight,” he says, but I’m already taking the porch steps down to the sand and then walking toward the water. The sky has the last of its orange glow. It’s not enough for me to see. There is no moon in the sky yet. That will come later. Right now it’s just me and the water.

My mind registers what Bobby just said, but I’m not really listening. Not now. I pull my T-shirt over my head and drop it to the sand. I turn to Bobby, revealing my naked chest, but he can’t see because of the darkness.

“It’ll feel good,” I say. “I want to feel the cold.”

“Are you crazy?”

I slip out of my cut-off shorts and my thong and leave them next to the shirt on the beach.

“Jenna,” Bobby says. “Wait.”

But I’m not listening. I run naked down toward the surf. I’ve never been skinny dipping. I want to feel the surf crash against my bare skin. All of it. I want to feel it all. Anything is better than feeling numb.

The text message from my mother creeps into my mind as my feet touch the wet sand and then the ocean water, which is far colder than I thought it would be. I welcome the shocking temperature and run a little deeper into the water until a wave crashes against my thighs and knocks me off balance.

And then I feel his warm arms wrap around me, enveloping me in the heat of his body. I can barely see Bobby, but I feel roughness of his wet blue jeans against my naked thighs.

“Let’s get back to the house.”

“I don’t want to,” I say.

“If you don’t get out of this water, I’m going to pick you up and carry you back to the house.”
I push at Bobby’s chest, trying to get him away from me. “I want to swim.”

“Okay, then get your bathing suit on. This is a public beach. And while I’m sure no one can see you right now, I also know if you get caught here like this you’ll be thrown off the island.”

I stop fighting him, but then a wave pushes me against him. Bobby wraps his arm around my waist.

“I thought Nantucket had nude beaches.”

“It does. This isn’t one of them.”

Genres: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary

Dani lives anything but a normal life. Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2. And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime. But that doesn't change the fact their parents are dead. Or that it's her fault.

It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside. That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer. He's gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable. But that doesn't stop her from wondering...if things were different...would he want her? If she was whole, would he be the other half?

Purchase: B&N, iBooks

My Review:

Not having read other works by Rachel Van Dyken before, I was impressed with Capture's story line. It was unique and romantic at the same time. The characters themselves have a lot to grow, but together they are able to let go of their pasts and move on to a brand new future.

Capture is the first book in the Seaside Pictures series, and it evolves around seventeen-year-old Dani and Lincoln Greene. After experiencing the terrible trauma of losing her parents, Dani's older sister takes her in, since then she has been living with one of the biggest names in Hollywood (her sister's husband). Now Dani is set to accompany her sister and brother-in-law to film their latest film, but to her surprise her brother-in-law has gotten her a job as a personal assistant to Hollywood's newest heartthrob, Lincoln Green. To say that her summer was going to be an adventure is a total understatement when she finally gets to meet Lincoln only to discover that he is not as bad as she thought he would be. And now she has to find a way of keeping her growing feelings to herself, especially when being a mute could cause her potential problems. Not being able to tell him what is really going on scares her, especially when she wants to be like other girls, but she can't get herself to talk. When she gets to know Lincoln better, their texting messages become a way to communicate between the two, and their late night messages slowly start to grow into something else altogether.

Lincoln Green has been thriving in the Hollywood scene, he has the fame and looks to get him anywhere. But he is tired of faking relationship for the press, all to get more publicity. When he gets cast in a new film, he gets a new personal assistant with the help of one of his friends. Yet after meeting Dani, he immediately likes her personality and when the two start to get close the more he has to figure out a way to convince that they belong together, though he is older by a couple years, he has the pressure from everyone else around her to leave her alone. Now Lincoln has to fight the constant feelings that he has whenever Dani is around.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was hilarious and romantic at the same time. The characters in the story, not just the main characters, are sweet and caring. They all really care for Dani and her well being, especially her older sister. They both have a strong bond after losing their parents, and Dani's relationship with her brother-in-law is sweet as well. He sees her as his baby sister, which also means that he is overprotective of her and when Lincoln comes into the picture, he does a good job at telling Lincoln to not try anything on Dani, especially hurt her. After years of blaming herself for the death of her parents, Dani was somehow traumatized and she can't get herself to talk. It is until we get to know more of the characters that she starts to let go and slowly moves on. In terms of personalities, I really liked Lincoln, he is the sweetest and funniest character in the book. He was supportive of Dani from the very beginning and their chemistry slowly grows throughout the book as well. We also get character development in the story that flowed from the very beginning and that just made the book enjoyable to read. All in all, Capture has become one of my favorite books of this year, definitely worth checking out. I highly recommend it. :)

“Finally!” Jaymeson pointed at both of us. “Lincoln, show her to her mark. Dani, for this scene you’re simply staring at him like you want to eat him. Think you can do that?”

I nodded.

Any woman could do that.

Most men too.

“Cue music!” Jaymeson called out. “Action.”

A techno mix of AD2’s latest song filled the air as the extras started dancing around us. I stayed glued to the wall while Lincoln delivered his lines to Pris, and then he lifted his head, meeting my gaze.

It’s just a movie. It’s just a movie.

The breath left my chest on one slow exhale as he moved toward me, his body making fluid purposeful movements through the crowd.

My lips parted; my entire body felt heavy as he approached.

He stopped in front of me, his forehead grazing mine as he leaned in a few inches. Our breath mingled as the music and scene faded around me.

“Cut!” Jaymeson yelled.

Holy crap on a cracker. I almost experienced my first stroke — at seventeen.

“You okay?” Lincoln’s eyebrows knit together in concern.

I licked the lipstick from my lips and nodded quickly.

Jaymeson approached. “Time for the kiss, remember kissing, not hockey. Clearly, you were confused earlier.”

Lincoln gritted his teeth and let out a little groan.

I patted his arm and grinned, my way of encouraging him. He seemed to pale more.

My stomach sank.

Maybe it was me.

I was the problem.

Not the kiss, but me. If he’d had trouble kissing my gorgeous sister, how was he going to be able to kiss me?

“Hey…” Lincoln cupped my cheek. “… focus on me, nothing else, alright? It’s only us.”

I nodded.

“You ever been to a party?”

I rolled my eyes.

“Ever made out with a guy at a party that wasn’t your boyfriend?”

I thought about it then slowly shook my head.

“So that’s what this scene is about. It’s about a guy seeing a girl from across the room and wanting her so badly that he’s willing to cheat on his own girlfriend for just one taste. Granted, he’s supposedly drunk and high, but that just takes the romance out of it, doesn’t it?”

He released my cheek and stepped back. “Imagine you’re trying to attract me, make your body as inviting as possible. Hell, just stand there and look at me, and you’ll sell it.”

Sell it. I repeated the words in my mind.

I could do that.

Because I wanted him to kiss me.

It made my heart beat faster.

My blood pump harder.

And for the first time since my parents’ death, I was actually excited about something. Nervous, but excited.

“Okay,” I mouthed.

I must have surprised him again because his eyes darkened, and then he grinned. “One day, Dani. One day I’m going to hear my name coming from that gorgeous mouth of yours, and I’m not going to be held responsible for my actions… damn the consequences.”

My breath hitched.

“Quiet on set! And action!”

There was no warning. Suddenly, Lincoln’s mouth was fused against mine, no teeth, just his soft lips pushing, prodding, moving slowly back and forth until his tongue slid through and made contact with mine.

Heart racing, I opened my mouth enough to deepen the kiss as heat washed over me.

He groaned and dug his fingers into my shoulders then slid his hands down my back and gripped my butt. I let out a squeak of surprise as I flicked his tongue with mine.

“Cut!” Jaymeson yelled.

I kept kissing.

So did Lincoln.

His chest brushed roughly against mine; my breasts ached at the sharp contact. I let out a little hiss at the exact time Linc let out a groan and nudged his knee between my legs.

“Cut!” Jaymeson yelled again.

Slowly, Lincoln pried himself away from me, chest heaving.

“Good enough,” said Jaymeson.

“No,” Lincoln argued without taking his wild grey eyes off me, “I went off script. We need to do it again.”

“The hell you do,” someone mumbled. I wasn’t surprised to see Demetri glaring daggers at Lincoln’s back. Alec was next to Jaymeson, giving him an earful. I noted the strong tick in his jaw.

“Fine.” Jaymeson waved them both off. “We’ll do it again.”

“Take two, and action!”

This time the kiss was slow, languid in its movements. Hot waves of pleasure coursed through my body as his tongue slid seductively pass my lips. His taste, the feel of his mouth was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. Greedily, I moaned, desperate for more of him as I reached for his shirt then fisting it with my hands and tugging him tighter against my body, wanting more contact with him. I felt every plane of muscle as he slowly turned us so his back was semi facing the camera. His knee nudged my legs apart as pressure increased down the middle of my body. I hadn’t really looked long at the script, but I was pretty sure that this wasn’t part of it.

Not that I was complaining.

He rocked into me, my back connected with the wall. With a possessive growl, he nipped my lower lip then started kissing down my neck. Kissing in public had never been my thing — but maybe that was because I’d never kissed Lincoln.

I would kiss him anywhere.

All he needed to do was ask.

Body humming with pleasure, I let out a little gasp as his warm lips met the pulse on my neck. Then his tongue licked where his lips had just been.

His knee rose higher and higher as my body sank onto his; the first contact of his leg had my body screaming with pleasure — just a little higher, just a little more.

“Cut!” someone shouted, though it didn’t sound like Jaymeson.

Suddenly, Demetri was pulling Lincoln away from me and glaring daggers at both of us. “I think you guys got the scene.”

Embarrassed, I looked down, tucking my silky hair behind my ear. Did I really almost just dry hump Lincoln Greene’s leg? In front of about twenty people, including my sister?

“You sure?” Lincoln asked, voice hoarse. I glanced up at him, his chest was heaving with exertion, his lips swollen. “Because I could have sworn I messed up my lines.”

“There are no lines, you bastard,” Demetri muttered under his breath.

“Damn it!” Jaymeson shouted. “Hey, guys, I’m going to need you to shoot it one more time. Remember, Lincoln, you’re supposed to proposition her.”

Lincoln grinned smugly at Demetri.

Demetri didn’t move.

A paranormal category romance from Entangled's Covet imprint...

This lone wolf falls hard...for his enemy.

Unmated werewolves don't normally live past three hundred years old...and billionaire Jack MacGrath is cutting it close. Sure, he has almost everything-the respect of his peers, a mansion in San Francisco, a private jet, and fast cars. But without a mate, Jack's in trouble. Then he sees her. Gorgeous, proud...and his enemy.
Isabelle Connelly is good at hiding things from her father. Like her success as a painter, or the incredibly intense attraction she has to Jack MacGrath. After all, she's royalty and falling for anyone lesser-to say nothing of a rival pack-would be, er, unseemly. Now she must choose between her duty to her family and her pack...or her perfect fated mate.

My Review:

I'm loving Entangled's Covet new release, Beauty and the Werewolf was such a great book to read. Not only was it a page-turner, but it was also filled with romance and a little travel adventure.

Isabelle Connelly comes from a royal wolf clan that has been known for not liking the San Francisco clan. So when she decides to travel to San Francisco to collect a very special painting, she didn't know that the stranger who ended up winning the bidding for the painting was non other than Jack MacGrath, her father's enemy. Yet knowing that she can't go home without the painting, she decides to go on a date with Jack only to have him tell her that she is his mate. You can already guess what happens when he tells her that, she doesn't accept the fact that he could be his mate, but at the end Jack stricks a deal with Isabelle. Stay with him for a couple days to see if her wolf feels what he is feeling for her and if she still wants to leave she can take the paintings that she wants. With no other choice, but to accept his offer, Isabelle stays with him only to discover even more secrets about the billionaire who calls himself her mate.

After living for three hundred years, Jack MacGrath knows that his time is almost up if he doesn't find a mate soon. Though he has accomplished a lot in his life time, he hasn't found the mate that he needs to keep him alive longer. He is told to do things to keep his adrenaline to a high, so he does, and collecting paintings from a famous yet mysterious painter made him feel different, almost better. So when he finds out that there is a painting up for auction, he bids on the painting only to have a very angry yet beautiful women willing to double the money for the painting. Soon he is intrigued to get to know her and quickly finds out that she is indeed his mate. Now he has do to anything in his power to convince her to stay with him or it will be too late for him.

I really enjoyed reading this book, there were a couple twists and turns that I enjoyed reading about. The only issue that I had with the book, which it didn't affect my overall reading experience that much, was how quickly we jump from one thing to another. The pacing was a bit fast for me, but I still liked the story plot. Isabelle has always wanted to make her father proud, as the next alpha of the pack, she needs to keep her pack's safety at heart at all times. Risking being with someone from an enemy pack is not only going to look bad on her, but also her father is never going to forgive her. So when she meets Jack, she can't accept what he tells her, yet she is willing to be with him for a couple of days. As the two start to get to know each other, and reveal their secrets, the more she feels for him. On the other hand, it does take her a very long time to finally accept that he was made for her.

Jack is your typical billionaire, he has the jet and fast cars. But his personality is sweet and caring, which is definitely swoon worthy. When he finds out that Isabelle's father is not going to let her be with him, he has to make a pretty tough decision at the end that could either hurt them or help them be together. Overall, I enjoyed reading Beauty and the Werewolf, it was a good book. I especially liked the ending, it just tied everything together nicely. I highly recommend it. :)
